The Neighbourhood remain on top for a second week with “Private”, while Phoebe Bridgers‘ “Lost Boys” slides into second place, followed by Fontaines D.C.‘s “Marianne” at #3. “I Can Take the Sun Out of the Sky” by Brigitte Calls Me Baby enters the top 10.
For the fourth week there are two new entries to my chart, starting with “I Kinda Like That” by American pop-punk band The Paradox. Formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 2024, the all-Black four piece consists of Eric Dangerfield (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Donald Bryant (bass), Christopher “Xelan” Bernard (lead guitar, backing vocals), and Percy “PC3” Crews (drums). Their exuberant sound is influenced by such pop-punk legends as Blink-182, Sum 41 and Green Day, and their 2025 single “Get the Message” reached #1 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart this past January and peaked at #3 on my chart in early February. “I Kinda Like That” is featured on their EP Proceed With Caution, which dropped this past Friday, October 2nd.
The second new entry is “oh yeah? by Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, guitarist and record producer Steve Lacy. The song is the title track from his third studio album Oh yeah?, released on July 17th. His 2022 hit “Bad Habit” reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as well as my chart, and ranks #6 on my 100 Best Songs of 2022 list.

I’ve commented on The Neigborhood’s “Private” before, and it’s good to see it defend the top spot.
I also enjoy both of your new entries, in particular “I Kinda Like That” by The Paradox. An all-African American pop punk band definitely is something you don’t see every day. More importantly, it’s a cool song.
I also sampled a few other tracks from “Proceed With Caution” and like what I’m hearing. And, yep, there’s definitely a good dose of Green Day in their music!

Thanks, Christian. Yes, it’s unusual to see an all African American band play pop punk.

Thanks Mr. B. Are you referring to the song “Private”?

Yes. The list generally doesn’t mean a lot to me but I always give your top song a listen, It’s my only link to 2026 music! Pete

Like the new number one, and good to see Alabama Shakes climbing still. Not to mention both Spiderman-boosted tracks charting here, Tame Impala and Steve Lacy. Orville Peck has been dropping good singles for quite a while, good to see him featuring too.

Ooh, love that Steve Lacy song. Very Beach Boys, but not just a pastiche.

Unfortunately, I think she’s peaked on my chart.

I love The Paradox and I love the fact that they are all black, which is not common at all in pop-punk. Hopefully, this will be the start of a trend.
I liked the other new entry too!
