“Raging Halls” by Malaysian singer-songwriter extraordinaire Lyia Meta remains atop my chart for a second week, while American singer-songwriter Noah Kahan moves into second place with “Doors”. Entering the top 10 is “no more regrets” by San Diego, California-based indie pop band almost monday.
There are three new additions to my chart this week, starting with “Loser” by Australian act Tame Impala, the music project of singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker. The song, which debuts at #27, was actually released last September (2025) as the second single from Tame Impala’s fifth album Deadbeat, which dropped a month later, but as with The Beaches’ “Edge of the Earth” is currently appearing on various alternative charts (which heavily influence my own chart). His single “Dracula” spent three weeks at the top of my chart at the beginning of this year.
Entering at #29 is “Window” by legendary American rock band the Foo Fighters. The song is from their 12th studio album Your Favorite Toy, released this past April. And coming in at #30 is “Metastasized”, the latest single by Vancouver, Canada-based indie pop-rock band Bealby Point, who currently consist of Jack Armstrong (lead vocals, guitar), Jordan Studer (bass) and Zack Yeager (drums). I’ve been a big fan of theirs since learning about them in 2021, and have featured them several times on this blog. “Metastasized” will be included on their forthcoming debut album Happiness Frontier.

Very happy to see Lyia Meta defend the top spot. That lady’s vocals give me the chills. BTW, I just noticed she has a new single out since August 7: “For You” – nice soulful song with a bluesy touch!
I also like your three new entries, particularly, Foo Fighters, a group that for reason I had ignored for the longest time. Luckily, this did change a few years ago. “Window” is great. I featured that song as well in a previous new music post!

Yes, Lyia’s vocal range is both phenomenal and broad. And the Foo Fighters, under the guidance of Dave Grohl, are survivors who continue to remain relevant.

And Lyia is pretty versatile. I just came back from a walk, during which I listened to her July 2024 album “Next.” It’s got a jazzy vibe and, among others, includes a great rendition of Beatles song “All My Loving.”

Once I began listening to some of Lyia’s music, I kept thinking her vocals reminded me a bit of another artist. Of course, I couldn’t remember that artist’s bloody name. Just as I was about to give up, it came to me: Jennifer Rush.
Do you remember her? She had a couple of hits in the ’80s, most notably, “The Power of Love,” which Celine Dion covered in 1993. Rush co-wrote that song, which I didn’t know until I just looked it up.
Anyway, long-winded way of saying Lyia Meta vocally reminds me a bit of Jennifer Rush, except I would say Lyia’s voice is more powerful.

Though I’ve heard the name Jennifer Rush, I wasn’t familiar with her music, as she didn’t appear to have been anywhere near as successful in the U.S. as she was in most of Europe. I never heard her recording of “The Power of Love” (which I saw on Wikipedia peaked at only #57 on the Billboard Hot 100), as it was never played on L.A. radio where I lived during the 80s. I only knew the later version by Celine Dion.
Anyway, in listening to some of Rush’s songs, she had a strong, resonant vocal, but I agree Meta’s are more powerful. As I’ve stated in many of my writings about her music, she can sing just about any style and genre of music.

Lyia Meta’s musical versatility is remarkable. I guess one could call her the Malaysian equivalent of Linda Ronstadt.

good to see almost monday top 10, still growing for me that one, and Loser has got a nice late boost from the Spiderman movie, good track as always from Tame Impala!
