Paramore‘s defiant “This Is Why” remains at the top spot for a second week on my latest Top 30 chart, while The Star Crumbles‘ darkwave beauty “Shadows in the Dark” slides into second position. Entering the top 10 are “Trouble With This Bed” by Beach Weather, jumping five spots to #7, and “Night Bus” by Welsh singer-songwriter Caitlin Lavagna, moving up one spot to #10. Two songs make their debut: the beautiful “Just Before the Morning” by L.A.- based indie alt-rock band Local Natives, entering at #29, and “Sleepwalking” by American pop/punk rock band All Time Low, at #30.

Bright spot on a dreary Sunday — weather-wise, anyway! Thanks, Jeff!

Last weekend was dreary for us (though it did bring some welcome rains to the desert), but it’s bright and sunny this weekend. Unfortunately, it’s not helping my dour mood. Anyway, you’re welcome Marc.

Sorry to hear you’re in a dour mood… I can definitely identify, though. When the clouds descend, they’re hard to shake.

I suffer from occasional bouts of depression, which seem to occur with greater frequency the older I get.

So many interesting tracks here. I’m liking Noah Kahan “Stick Season.” Love the strong acoustic guitar rhythm section. What would we call this style?

I’d describe it as indie folk/pop.

Your new entry by the Local Natives sounds pleasant. Also, nice to see The Star Crumbles moving up, or should I say The Star Climbs? 🙂

I really like their music. And yes, the Stars are climbing rather than crumbling!

I’ve always look forward to your top 30 list. Jeff, I’m not sure if you have every explained how you go about ranking the songs every week. I’m really curious how your playlist through the week works.

Thanks Robert, that makes me happy to hear! My weekly lists are essentially my favorite “current” songs for each week. They’re admittedly influenced by the charts, particularly the alternative music charts, but also the pop charts to a lesser extent.
I also try to always include 8-10 songs I especially like by independent/unsigned artists I follow. They’re generally the most appreciative to be featured on my charts.

I don’t know why I never caught it before, maybe I just overlooked it, was Metallica’s version of Lux Aeterna always on there from the last couple of lists? Surprising that I likely overlooked it on the list and also surprisingly never knew they covered it. I’m sitting here “old guy” and “frumpy” about it going, “hmm. I don’t know…” I really do appreciate that piece.

Yes, the previous few weeks. I didn’t know it was a cover.

Okay it’s not what I thought it was lol. Had to listen to make sure. When I saw the title “Lux Aeterna” first thing I thought was Clint Mansell. Same name, two completely different songs. Big ol’ nevermind lol.

Graham just posted something on them lately. I like this one more than some of the others I heard by them.

If you’re referring to Paramore, “This is Why” is my favorite song of theirs.
