Top 30 Songs for March 2-8, 2025

Not a lot of changes on this week’s Top 30, with Twenty One Pilots holding the top spot for a second week with their beautiful and cinematic “The Line”, while Balu Brigada remain at #2 with “So Cold”. Two songs by powerhouse acts make their debut this week, the first of which is “luther” by rapper Kendrick Lamar and alternative R&B/hip hop singer-songwriter SZA (born Solána Imani Rowe). The two previously collaborated on “All The Stars” in 2018, one of my favorite songs of the 2010s. “luther”, which is currently #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, features a sample of “If This World Were Mine”, a 1982 song by the late, great Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn, and I Iove the beautiful strings. The second debut is “The Night Before” by always wonderful blues rock band The Black Keys. The song is the lead single from their forthcoming 13th album No Rain, No Flowers, to be released later in the year.

  1. good chart! You know I thought Luther sounded like a sample of Gladys Knight but I read somewhere it was Cheryl Lynn, co-singer on the Luther record he is sampled from. I think I need to hear the original If This World Were Mine song right now, back in a mo. Yup, she sounds nothing like Gladys Knight, so now I’m confused as Wikipedia mentions only Cheryl Lynn! I wonder if they digitally altered her voice, or if it’s SZA…Gladys has definitely been sampled recently on a great dance track by Bakermat Without Ya (uncredited) as I went back to find the bit they nicked in the original song, so it wouldnt be the first time an old Gladys track has been used without a mention…

  2. I mainly check sample credits because I get annoyed if the original singer is sampled and gets no featuring credit, so I give them one in my charts in protest, considering Uncle Tom Cobbley and all get feature credits these days for just breaking wind briefly on a track, it should be basic practice! 🙂
