The ebullient earworm “Tonight” by French pop-rock band Phoenix featuring Vampire Weekend front man Ezra Koenig, holds at #1 for a second week. Sliding into the #2 spot is “I’m In Love With You” by The 1975, becoming their highest-charting song ever on my Weekly Top 30. “This Is Why” by Paramore moves up to #3, also making it their best-performing song ever on my chart. The haunting new wave gem “Shadows in the Dark” by The Star Crumbles moves up three spots to #4. Three songs make their debut this week: “Stick Season” by Vermont singer-songwriter Noah Kahan, “Lux Æterna” by metal rock veterans Metallica, and “Everything I Own” by Welsh singer-songwriter Dom Thomas, which I reviewed this past November.
Fun fact: Once again this week, there are three songs on this list by guys named ‘Sam’.

From your new entries, I like Noah Kahan and Dom Thomas, who are both entirely new artists to me. And, wow, Jeff, frankly, I didn’t anticipate seeing a Metallica tune in your list – sounds pretty ferocious! While I definitely dig some hard rock, this may be a bit too much for me! 🙂
That said, I do like Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” and their rendition of Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page”.

Noah Kahan is pretty new to me too, though he has quite a large following on Spotify, and many of his songs have been streamed millions of times. I’m not a big fan of metal rock, however I do like some songs, and Metallica is undeniably one of the greatest bands in that genre.

I don’t like the new Paramore song. I read on a comment above that it took you a while to get into it. Hope the same happens to me but, right now, it looks unlikely. By the way, there’s a little typo in the first paragraph where you referred to The 1975 as The 1976 =)

Hmm, “This is Why” is the first Paramore song I’ve ever liked, as they’ve never really clicked with me before. Part of it’s due to the fact that I don’t much care for Hayley Williams’ voice. And thanks for letting me know of my 1976 error. Hate when I make dumb mistakes like that!

Yeah, I’m not a big of her voice either but I’ve liked a couple of Paramore songs before. And don’t be too harsh on yourself about the typo. It happens to all of us.
