EclecticMusicLover named one of 10 Best Jangle Pop Blogs

I’m thrilled to announce that my humble little blog EclecticMusicLover has been named one of the 10 Best Jangle Pop Blogs and Websites by the website FeedSpot – the internet’s largest curated database of bloggers and podcasts. It’s both a total surprise and an honor to even be included among these other great blogs. Here’s the link to the list, in which I’m ranked #10. I guess it’s due to the large number of jangle pop bands I’ve written about over the past year.

This is the second time my blog has been included in one of FeedSpot‘s best-of lists; last year, it was named one of the 100 Best Indie Music Blogs on the site. (At that time, my blog ranked #48, but now sits at #20, which I must admit is a complete shock!)

Though my blog is a labor of love for me, it’s also at times a source of frustration, disappointment and stress. Therefore, it’s gratifying that all my time and effort spent writing about often little-known independent artists and bands over the past eight-plus years has earned me some recognition!

    1. Thanks so much Horacio! It was totally unexpected, but truth be told I honestly don’t feel very deserving of this particular ranking. Indie blogs yes, but not this one. Still, I’m honored to be included. And nice to see your blog still ranked fairly high among Indie blogs!

So well deserved. Jeff, you are one of the best writers I know. Your imagery is spectacular and your ability to discover new talented artists is unrivaled. Keep up the great work.

Your blog’s dedication to jangle pop definitely earns its place in the rankings. One could argue that jangle pop doesn’t need its own category, but if it does, your blog absolutely belongs there!

I’m surprised my blog is still ranked among indie blogs, considering I don’t update as frequently as I used to. In fact, I’ve just renewed my hosting for one more year and I think this will be the final one. I’ve enjoyed the experience but I don’t have as much time now as I had when it started. C’est la vie!

      3. Keeping up the pace with writing blog posts takes time and dedication, and I’m truly amazed at the bloggers who churn out one or more posts every single day for years. As you know, I’ve gotten burned out several times and stopped writing reviews, at least for a brief while, though my 3-month-long break at the end of last year was my longest.

I can’t believe that I somehow managed to write 3-5 reviews per week back in 2016-21, when I was still working full time (except for the Covid lockdown when I had plenty of time). Now I’m nearly retired, working only part time, yet can’t seem to get nearly as many reviews done. Part of it’s due to having less enthusiasm for writing, but also the fact I now follow so many more blogs (and political podcasts) and spend a couple of hours each day reading & listening to them. Time wasters for sure, but if I want other bloggers to read my posts, I’ve got to invest the time to read at least some of theirs. But the end result is that it’s become a vicious cycle that often makes me feel both trapped and exhausted.

You are spot-on. Even if you were working on your blog full time, between reading other blogs (which I agree is something you 100% got to do if you want other bloggers to read your blog), being active on social media, listening to submissions and answering emails, and the actual updates to your blog, you would still end the day exhausted. Even though yours is the only music-related blog I regularly check nowadays (I simply don’t have the time to check others, despite the clear advantages), when I get some spare time from my day job and raising a toddler, I rarely want to spend it updating my blog. The incentives/rewards are not worth the sacrifices.

      5. It is exhausting, almost like having another job. I have a stack of books I’d like to read, jigsaw puzzles waiting to be put together, etc. that I’m neglecting. I just got a submission from an artist who’s album I reviewed 3 years ago, wanting me to review his new 14-track album. Now I’ve got devote an hour to listen to it, then decide whether I want to write about it. It just becomes more of a chore than a fun hobby.
